[attempt at articulating the heart]
Poetry
Your heart is constantly yearning to express itself.
However, the question is
Are you expressing or suppressing?
Are you giving or are you withholding?
The Prophet ﷺ said “The difference between the one who remembers Allah, and the one who doesn’t remember Allah is like the difference between the living and the dead.”
We scribe our hearts on to paper in attempt to keep our hearts alive
We write to better understand ourself, to remember our essence & why God is unfolding that which we are going through.
"Those who know themself, know their Lord."
In terms of writing itself,
in other words to get your heart to be able to be expressed and let out through a pen and paper, it all starts with intention.
The Prophet ﷺ also said, “action are but by the intention and every man will have but that which he intended.”
So if you intend to Allah that you wish to use the blessing he’s given you to feel deeply in your heart pain or happiness, or whichever emotion, and to use the other blessing of being able to read and write, then ask Him to let you use those blessings to connect & understand to your heart by penning it which will allow you to understand & connect to Him more inshAllah
After intention, you are bound to get that which you intended based on the words of Allah’s Beloved ﷺ.
I usually go to my poetry notebook whenever I’m feeling a feeling a lot stronger than any other emotion in my heart. Whether it’s missing someone or excited about the future or an experience with my connection to Allah or His Rasool ﷺ. I go to the paper and pen it out. Don’t think of any rules. There are no rules when it comes to penning your heart. No rhymes, no full lines.
Even if its just two words that come out from your heart to the paper, that is poetry. So long and until it comes from your heart, it is art.
I cannot die
& I will not live
until I fall in love with you
I am dead
l am not living
nor am I alive
until you are living in my heart
I want you to be the love of my life
because you are the Love to the life
& the most Beloved to God
love has a language called
spontaneity
a realm where
neither time and space
are permitted
do not withhold
unless you wish to
write your own eulogy
Unaware of Common Love
They ask her about love
She responded
I don’t know of your common love
but i’m aware of The Source of that love
I’ve not yet loved a human the way you have
but i have The One who loves me more than my own mother [Sahih Bukhari 5999]
I have not given my heart to another human before
but I know The One who my heart belongs to
I have yet to meet my partner in this life
but I know who my Beloved is
I’ve yet to meet my prince
but I surrender to the King of hearts
I’ve never had a human yearn to speak to me
but I have The One who hears my heart [Quran 67:13]
without me having to utter a word
I don’t have someone I miss
but I have The One who remembers me even when I forget [Quran 93:3]
So ask me again about love
I will say yes
I fall in love everyday
as I fall to my knees
and i’m closest to الودود [The Most Loving]
That is my greatest love story
The City of Munawara [Light]
The scent of peace
coupled with silence that is sweet ask me how that is something to be smelt
i’ll tell you to visit his shroud
the tunnel vision so easy to see The Gumbat underneath the tree
a portion of Paradise’s garden all laid out in front of me
to see the brick royalty of brown underneath the green, so rich, unfound
ask me how Thé removed
from my soul all forms
The screeching sun
has become a gentle warmth
The cloudy skies
are now a shaded protection
The rocky floors
are now mountainous grounding
The flocking birds
are a choir of melodies of Love
The lost stray cat
is a found & welcomed guest
The stranger on the street
is a family friend
The traveler
is now a resident
all in the lands of Madina
